HEMET — A motorist who was allegedly under the influence when he crashed his BMW head-on into another car in Hemet, leaving another driver with likely fatal injuries, was being held Monday in lieu of $50,000 bond.Marcos A. Forestal, 28, of Burbank was arrested Sunday night and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of felony DUI resulting in injuries. Monday night, Hemet police said the victim wasn’t expected to survive her injuries and the department was in the process of updating the situation against Forestal to one of vehicular manslaughter.
According to Hemet police Lt. Eric Dickson, the crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the 500 block of Warren Road, just north of Devonshire Avenue. A woman in the wheel of Chrysler sedan was unable to steer clear of Forestal’s car, and the two vehicles collided in the northbound lanes, according to the lieutenant. The Chrysler caught fire, but patrol officers arrived within a few minutes and immediately doused the flames with their fire extinguishers, he said.Fire crews extricated the woman, whose name was not released, from the Chrysler and airlifted her to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley. She wasn’t expected to survive, Hemet police said Monday evening.
Forestal was found walking around the wreckage and arrested without a struggle after officers determined that he was allegedly drunk, according to Dickson.The suspect was analyzed at a nearby trauma center and then taken to jail.
