Preserve what you already have

Keep photographs, videos, texts, emails, incident reports, damaged items, receipts and insurance letters. Preserve original digital files, including dates and other available information. A screenshot may be useful, but it may not replace the original message or file.

Do not delete relevant social media posts or messages, discard a product or arrange a destructive inspection without discussing preservation with counsel. Tell us immediately if evidence is about to be repaired, removed or overwritten. Safety remains the priority when an item poses a danger.

Give us complete information

Identify witnesses, businesses, insurance companies and other people connected with the incident. Tell us about prior attorneys, prior injuries, other claims and later accidents. Information that seems unfavorable can still be important to evaluating the case honestly.

Keep a list of records you have and records you believe exist elsewhere. If you do not know an answer, explain what you do know and how you checked.

Track losses with supporting records

Save medical and pharmacy receipts, travel records, employment information and documents showing accident-related expenses. For wage loss, tell us about missed dates, job duties and available employer or payroll records.

Describe limitations with examples rather than broad claims. Record changes over time, including recovery and activities you can resume.

Respond to the office's requests

Read the full request and use the response format we provide. Keep question numbers and identify missing items clearly. Contact us before the requested return date if you need assistance or cannot finish on time.

An office request for a prompt draft is different from the legal deadline for a formal response. Do not calculate your own deadline or assume an extension has been obtained.

Be careful with statements and documents

Send us insurer requests, proposed releases and legal notices promptly. Before giving a substantive statement or signing a document related to the incident, ask your attorney how it may affect the case and whether an obligation applies.

Avoid arguing about the accident online. Do not ask a witness to change an account or rehearse a version of events. Preserve the witness's contact details and tell us what the person actually knows.

Update your address, email and telephone number. Tell us about extended travel, new treatment or a change in employment. Check your secure messages and let us know the best way to contact you when a decision is needed.
